I found out there is a problem with my water pump and when I got home the engine was overheating really bad. I hosed it down with cold water ( which I realise is a big mistake) and it shut off as I was spraying it. Now every time I start the engine it cuts off if I don't feed it gas. Please give me some help on trouble shooting. I know I messed up, please just help me fix it. This is my first car.

i would suspect mositure in one of your connectors. You could try and spray your the electrical connectors in the same areas you sprayed the hose with a good wire dry spray. You can find it at autoparts store or a good marine supply center. I would guess your tps (throttle position ) sensor or cable is not making good contact.

Not 100% as I am not a mechanic - but have had some experiences with my vehicle.

But yes... hosing the engine down could have caused the outer components of the engine to contract faster than the inner parts... (including the piston chambers...)

Allow to dry... you might be lucky and only have wet the spark plugs or something.

You might also have wet or shorted the battery or the computer (is it fuel-injection?)

Failing this, you might want to have it looked at by a mechanic...

sounds like a vacum leak. there are quite a few negituve hoses, lines, and gaskets to look at. what i have done in the past to find a leak i`ve taken carb cleaner and sprayed around suspected areas with the engine running and see if there is a change in the rpm up or down. if there is a change you have found your leak. unless it something major you may be able to fix it with jb weld or silicone.

check the throttle body for corrosion, i had a buddy with a similar problem with a different car. when you start it up the throttle body is open, when it idles the throttle body is still open a bit, but if there is corosion it could block that space and cause it to cut off.
