When Windows Vista is installed, you connects to Microsoft and registers your product code, along with the serial number of your computer, the make and model of your system board, hard drive, memory, video, etc. (10 different items).

If you attempt to reuse the same Vista code on a second computer, it will refuse to activate and will not work.

You can not use one copy of Vista on two computers.

It's illegal alright and it won't work. The 2nd time you install Vista on a 2nd pc it may work a while (maybe hours, days or weeks) and then Microsoft will shut it down for good. Just don't do it. WinXP isn't that bad an alternative for the desktop.

It won't let you do it. I don't understand why you would consider Vista critical. The only major differences between Windows Vista and XP is the interface at the moment. In fact there is more support out there for Windows XP than there is for Windows Vista. If you really need Vista, they have the crappy edition for $99.

I would venture calling Microsoft Hotline. Explain your situation. Say that you bought the software and was wondering if you can install it on BOTH of your machines. If they say its one user license, say that you are the only user that will be using those two computers, so it is still on user.

It MIGHT work

You will not be able too. The keys are registered with Microsoft once you activate over the net. It is a good bet that it may also be based on your NIC address.
