80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

One may interpret this question several ways but the two main might be:
1. Why was life created at all?
2. What is our purpose on this earth?
For the first one no one has a good answer.
The second: The Creator or Creating Spirit wants you to know and understand its nature. This can be done thru one's own personal experience and also by absorbing (thru study or sharing) the experience of others. This life is a school where you try to learn the answer to the question you posed.

Life is a condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally. A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere on Earth. Properties common to these organisms – plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea and bacteria – are a carbon and water-based cellular form with complex organization and genetic information. They undergo metabolism, possess a capacity to grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce and, through natural selection, adapt to their environment in successive generations.
An entity with the above properties is considered to be a living organism, that is an organism that is alive hence can be called a life form. However, not every definition of life considers all of these properties to be essential. For example, the capacity for descent with modification is often taken as the only essential property of life. This definition notably includes viruses, which do not qualify under narrower definitions as they are acellular and do not metabolise. Broader definitions of life may also include theoretical non-carbon-based life and other alternative biology.
Some forms of artificial life, especially wet alife, might alternatively be classified as real life.

There is no meaning of life. It will never be found as history attests. Meaning originates from the perception of yourself as value.
Life originates from the exercise of value. There is no defining line between what is life and not life except when life ends. In the development of life it is simply a matter of more and more complex values interacting for the purpose of value gratification. Eventually relativity brings together complex values in uncommon ways which permit the smallest step of active definition. This is the first step of life. The ability to be actively involved in the application of value by a formerly inanimate value.

well if you ever read or see the play Our Town you will completely understand the meaning of life
WARNING: it may seem boring but Thorton Wilder did this on purpose..yes it is true
Anyway, to help you out a little bit...the meaning of life it to basically not think so hard about it..don't ask the questions like why are you here? what are you supposed to do? are you a mistake?
NO. you should enjoy life while you can because it goes by way to fast. The time that is given to us is so precious and the simple things are what matter...your life does not need to be some big extravaganza or full of materialistic items...if you focus to much on the high paying job, car, house, etc...you will never be happy
and the meaning of life is.....to be happy

I quote Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
"One who knows, will not tell you! And anyone who attempts to tell you, please know that they don't know! But this much I can tell you... this very fact this question has arisen in your mind, you are lucky! Many people just live life without asking what is the purpose of life. This question itself is like tool, a vehicle for you to go deep into life... the quest for reality!"
