If I have read the book first, it's a go.

Otherwise, the movie has to look like it has a plot.

And word of mouth is crucial.

We rent movies online at blockbuster and love it! That's the main reason we hardly ever go to movie theaters any more, unless we know we are going to see a big commercial movie like Shrek 3 or Pirates 3.

True life movies hold no interest to me. When I watch a movie I like to be swept away to another place, another time, another world. The far past, like the days of the Romans or the days when witchcraft was considered to be true. The far future which may dictate what the Earth could be like if certain events unfold. Movies based on actual events do attract me but not true to life events. Take the movie ''Cast Away'' for instance. This movie is not based on a true story but it could be a possibility. Take the movies ''The Matrix trilogy'' or ''The Lord of the Rings trilogy'', one deals with the future in a very imaginative way and the other deals with the past in the same imaginative way. Consider the movie ''Forrest Gump'', which deals with the life of one simple man over the course of 3 decades. Everything that could possibly happen to Forrest does happen. Another great fantasy movie I really enjoyed was ''Kill Bill, vols. 1 &2''. Just the way the story unfolds and the eventual victory against over whelming odds.

I also consider actors and actresses. Tom Hanks has made many great films and even if it's a movie I would normally watch I would watch it anyway simply because he's such a great actor. The same is true for Jim Carey, Jack Nickalas and even John Wayne. Westerns are at the bottom of my list of movies I would watch but if John Wayne is in it I will at least give it a chance. Have you every seen ''The Man who shot Liberty Valance''? It's a very old movie but worth every second of the black and white.

Special affects can make a bad movie somewhat better. A great story line can make good actors into fantastic ones. Some movies work their way slowly to certain outcomes which are predictable and yet I'm compelled to watch them. Famous lines can make a movie as well such as, ''You make me want to be a better man.'', ''You can't handle the truth!'' and ''Houston, we have a problem.''

Some movies are just fun to watch, old or new, like ''Cool Hand Luke'' or ''The Planet of the Apes''. Charlton Heston is another great actor who deserves to be given a chance if you haven't seen one of his movies before. ''Ben Hurr'' or ''The Ten Commandments''.

Movies I hate can be catogorically summerised as well. Movies like ''Scary Movie'' or ''Weekend at Bernie's'' or ''American Pie''. All these are so corny it makes me sick to watch such bad acting. I know it's a movie of comical farse but they just do not appeal to me.

Actors, plots, future or past, good stories, far out characters, mythical creatures, mistical times. Give me a good warlocks and witches movie over a comical let down any day of the week and twice on Sundays. :)

Do I like the actors and actresses. Do I want to meet a mood, like stormy weather, something slightly scary..or before bed.,something that is sweet and happy. Old familiar fuzzy warm movies when I feel like wallowing in good old memories of my family. That's the criteria.

If it will engage me in any intelligent way. Examples: 300 was a comic book dud; The Departed was really clever. The Queen was a fantastic character piece.

Subject & quality. The leading actors play a part but not the most important part in my decision.

Well, it has to appeal to me right away. And I usually ask myself if I really care enough to see it now or do I not care enough to see it and would rather wait to buy it on pay per view or dvd when it came out.
