I am from Michigan, everybody said Pop there. But most people in the Navy called it Soda and looked at me funny when I said Pop. The reason it is called "Pop" is the early pop bottles had an internal cork. The top of the stopper had a thick wire sticking out of the pop bottle. It was shaped somewhat like the top of a coat hanger. When you would drive the stopper into the bottle to drink it it would make a popping sound.

Soda, but only because I've been in the south over 20 years. Before then, I was a Yankee and said "pop".
