My cat brought home a Rabbit, and it was still alive but mangled. I knew I needed to kill it; to keep it from suffering, but I really feel bad now. I know it needed to die, However, I don't know if I should have interfered with nature by taking it from the cat when it is part of natural selection. What is your though?

You did the right thing, nothing on this earth should suffer, but sorry you had to do that.

I honestly don't know what I would have done in that situation. As far as interfering with nature, you became a part of it because the cat brought it home. I think that you did what needed to be done. Don't beat yourself up over it. You made a choice and ended it's suffering. It's ok

i think that you definately did the right thing. If i were the rabbit i would thank you for making the pain stop. Now it can rest peacefully . It is awful to be put in a situation where you must kill such a beautiful creature but as deep as this sounds, i think fate brought it to you. i think all things have a reason. maybe you learned something from it or maybe it was brought to you for the very reason of knowing you would do it justice and do the right thing. may the poor thing be in a better place.

We first got our cat while at an animal shelter in search of our old cat. The cat we've had for a few years now manages to get outside on a regular basis, and has killed various animals, from lizards to rabbits, and birds, snakes, as well as small unidentified animals. Usually, I would call for my dad, and he would take it to a safe area. Even if a rabbit seems to be in pain, it may be fine--they often pretend in order to ward off prey. Therefore, I would've suggested moving it somewhere else, and keeping your cat away from it.

Oh I hate when that happens.

I once bawled like a baby when I was trying to put a little chickadee bird "out of it's misery." I just couldn't do it.

I know others will tell you to keep your cat inside. I have 4 cats. The two I had since they were kittens are strictly indoor cats. The two which I took in were indoor/outdoor cats which I tried to keep inside but who literally climbed the walls trying to get outside. Now, they are free to come and go but prefer being outside. I have bout 9 acres of land and my land is surrounded by several acres of other land, so they aren't close to the road. Their biggest threat is hunters, who can be cruel to outdoor cats.

Aaargh...I feel you. You put the rabbit out of it's misery by expediting what would have been a slower and more painful death at the paws & teeth of the cat. Poor thing. Consider putting a bell on the cat. I keep mine in just for that reason. I don't want them bringing home half dead gifts.

The cat was bringing it to you as a gift. Honestly! Thats how they think! So you should be flattered a bit!

As for the animal, you did it a favor. There was no way that it was going to live, and by NOT doing what you did it would have just prolonged the inevitable.

You did the right thing. Your feelings of regret will pass.

Sorry you had to do that. I don't think I could have done. I would've been screaming & calling all neighbors for help. One of them probably would have finished the rabbit off. I don't know how you did it but God bless you for having to do it. It was probably the right thing because the little thing was suffering.

If it were a rat or a gopher it would be easy'
but a rabbit! I know how you must feel, I guess its better what you did the torture it would have felt by the cat would have been worse. So sorry you had to go through that.♥

Gotta do what ya gotta do. It's good you didn't let it suffer. I think the natural selection rule only applies to animals that have no other choice than to eat what it kills. I'm sure you feed you're cat enough that it doesn't need to kill to eat.

Cats are really not part of our ecosystem they are farrel meaning that they are not native to this country. Taking it from the cat was the right thing to do. I put a bell on my cat so she couldn't sneak up to and kill birds, you might want to try that to avoid this happening again.
