To have your cake and eat it too means you want it both ways, or you get what you want both ways.
Having cake is like saving it for later, eating it is like consuming it now and not having any for later...It's a choice, one or the other.
To have it and eat it too is like you get it both ways, you get to eat it now and have it for later.
An example of this would be like saying you have to choose to either go to a friends birthday party OR go to see a movie you've been wanting to see. Then you decide to go to the party and your friends at the party decided to go see the movie you wanted to see to begin with. You got your cake and ate it too.
I don't know if this is the best example but all I can think of now.
Hope this helps.

I've only ever heard it "You can't have your cake and eat it too". It means you can't have things both ways. For example: you can't do an extreme sport and expect to never get hurt.

To wish to have one's cake and eat it too (sometimes eat one's cake and have it too) is to want more than one can handle or deserve, or to try to have two incompatible things. This is a popular English idiomatic proverb, or figure of speech.

Having your cake referring to keeping it for a later date,
and eating it to, wanting to eat it now, ergo wanting to have all things your way although it is practical to do so.

The phrase "you can't have your cake and eat it too," is sort of like the phrase, "beggars can't be choosers." It means that you can't have everything that you want.
"Having your cake and eating it too," means that everything worked out for you.

If you have cake and eat it, you no longer have cake. To have your cake and eat it too means you have more than enough.

Of course you'd eat it. But then you wouldn't have it.
