Thankfully I have not, but I do know people who have endured such a tragedy.

No I have not. But I was a volunteer firefighter for 6 years. I always felt so bad for the people that were displaced by a fire. So many fires can be prevented by proper maintenance. Or just by being careful.

Thankfully, I never went to a fire where someone perished. But the loss of all of ones possessions is an awful thing.

Oh yes, Our 5 bedroom house was a total loss. I lost 5,000 books. My oldest daughter had a book ready to send to the publisher. All of our pictures of the children growing up as well as ancestor photos went up in flames. One favorite cat died when she hid rather than go out the window which was open. And everything else that makes a house a home. Oh yes a beautiful piano that had come to the west on a covered wagon. It had been in our family from the time it was new.

Yes. The true victim was my daughter, she died at the age of One. No mother should ever out live their child. You find out real fast that not money or anything material matters. What matters in life is that you live each day as if it was your last and let your love show. If you ever think you got it bad, just think of all the children that did not get a chance to live a full life. If you ever wish for more money or material things, be thank full for what you got. The most import thing is your family and your friends. Everything else is nothing. The laughter of a child is more beautiful to me than anything in the world.

Yes, once, while living in NJ. We had a big old three story Tudor which caught fire on the third floor. No one was hurt, but the third floor was destroyed as was part of the second floor, and there was heavy smoke damage on the first floor. We spent only a week in a hotel while it was being fixed up. Our insurance agent (State Farm) took care of us very well.

I did lose about 1000 books in that fire, as well as a couple antiques. They were all insured. Oh well - as I said, no one was hurt.

No, fortunately. But when I was 14 we went to a chimney fire that jumped across the road to the barn, where 4 children were sleeping and they never had a chance, the barn burned to the gournd in a matter of minutes despite any thing we did to put it out.

Yes I have. When I was 8 years old my house burned down and we lost everything. Luckily no one was home at the time. The only things that survived was one of our cats, who was 8 at the time, and a few photo albums.

Almost. A guy down ther street got angry at the ppl in our neighborhood so he tried to burn down the houses when we were asleep. It got one neighbor's house, and the fire came right up against our house, but it got put out in time. Everything in the neighborhood burned down except the houses which the firemen saved.

Yes.
I was 7 years old and the first one to wake up.
I pulled on a pair of shorts so I could stick my pet snake in the pocket.
Then, I crawled to my parents room and got them up and we left the house.

The house was pretty much destroyed.

Well, I once had a dishwasher catch fire. I had the fire out real quick, but I still called the fire dept. to have them double check anything I may have missed.
