The milky way means two things. It is the band you see across the sky on a dark night. That is just a small portion of our galaxy.
The Milky way also refers to the whole galaxy that our sun is in and we can not see the whole thing because we are in the middle of it.
we cannot see the whole milky way galaxy the way you can see and take pictures of other galaxies like the Andromeda galaxy with a telescope.

Most are photo-realistic artist renderings, or more lately computer generated drawings. Hubble can see the other side of the Milky Way, but you can too, just not in the city. In the country away from lights, just look straight up. Look way past the stars and planets and constillations. the light, dusty area beyond the close lighted objects is the far side of our galaxy. makes you feel very insignificant.
A space probe launched in the '70s (I think) has passed outside of the far side of our galaxy in '05 or '06 into 'deep' space and sent back some pictures. We won't be alive by the time it nears any more galaxies. That might take a century or longer.
Try nasa.com or maybe hubble.com for more pictures. Neat stuff, huh.

they are just part of the milky way. It's like taking a picture of the inside of your house. You don't get the whole thing. Also several pictures are just computer generated pictures of what it should look like.

We can have photos of the Milky Way Galaxy from the perspective of Earth ,or from the perspective of the Hubbel Space Telescope, or possibly from a space probe.

NASA sent out a camera crew a couple years back. lol
Any pictures you see peering at the Milkyway from the outside are altered photos (digital) depicting what the Milkyway would look like from that perspective.

We don't have pictures of the whole thing from the outside. Just pictures from the inside. It's in the sky all night.

How can you have a photo of a forest if you are in it?
How can you have a photo of the beach if you are on it?
How can you have a photo of a crowd if you are in it?
Does that answer your question?
