My first question is do you have a pet? If you do this is what is causing your brown spots and they make a product just for this problem. It can be found at Lowe's in the grass seed part. If you don't have a pet you either have an insect problem in your lawn or ground mole problem.. If there are holes in your lawn or if the soil is super soft in some areas it is ground moles... Hope this helps, good luck with your lawn..

Start with spreading grub control if you haven't already. Then make sure you don't have any stray cats around. Take a shovel and loosely till the soil and it should recover, depending on your type of grass, otherwise overseed.
