For just save Data your hard drive is more than enough.

If you are going to download loads of virtual console games however, It would be worth getting an SD card - You can pick up 2GB ones for under Â£20 these days!

You don't need an SD Card. You'll only need it if you play ALOT of games, and need the extra save space.
