I know that Mormons to the outside world look like racists, pigs, and downright womanizers. As a formal LDS member I would like to apologize to the African American community and especially to women for the horrible treatment they have encountered at the hand of LDS men. Unfortunately though many young people don't choose LDS they are born into it. When I left LDS and married an African American woman my family disowned me and I haven't spoken to them in over seven years. My grandfather was a Mormon and did the marring 12 virgins thing (12 for the 12 tribes of Israel) and a couple of them were, yes you guessed it, young girls at age 12. LDS through the pressure of the American government has amended their 12 virgins rule and men NOW are only allowed 1 wife on Earth. However, the afterlife still promises 12 virgins.

LDS even has a PR department that should be addressing this. I often joke with my friends that they must be on a long vacation because I don't like to think ill of anyone but why would they ignore such an important issue? Why treat women like cattle? Why rape little girls? This ill treatment really makes me sad.

wow 12 virgins - so, if I convert to Mormonism, do I get 12 vigins in the afterlife?

I don't think there's any apologizing to do, except to the 12 year old girls forced to marry.

who needs an apology? I don't. I know several biracial couples in the LDS church, who even married in the temple. And which blacks are you apologizing to? The ones in the church? Do you think they really need an apology from you? The ones outside the church? What do they care? They're not members, the church did nothing to them.

Plural marriage had nothing to do with marrying virgins and I would bet that if he married a 12 year old, even back then that would have been grounds for excommunication, unless he didn't touch her forthe next 8-10 years.

Where in teh world do you get this "12 virgins" nonsense?

In fact, I don't think you were ever an active member of our church, cause you don't seem to have clue 1 on what we do or did believe.

As the ONLY Mormon wife of a Mormon man (who is NOT into little girls or other women--just me) I would like to apologize to any other Mormon women who read this ignorant drivel.

If I'm not mistaken, it was Margaret Thatcher who said that Mormon women are some of the best prepared leaders in the world. And it's true.

I would imagine that your family was much more upset with your marrying outside the covenant than with your marrying outside your race.

And no, there are no 12 virigins thing promised to men...my husband gets me. Just me. And I get him. That's all.

There has never been a 12 virgins rule.
You don't know anything about Mormons. The sad thing about your question is that some people might actually be dumb enough to believe it.

Mormons are taught to honor and respect women.

I'm so tired of people apologizing for things they didn't do. Were YOU a polygamist? Were YOU a racist? If so, then go ahead and apologize. It's arrogant and self-important to apologize for people who are dead, for whom you have no right to speak. I'd be pretty ticked off at the thought that someday my descendants would totally negate my beliefs by offering some sort of apology, regardless of how egregious my behavior looks to those of the future. I do what's right by today's standards, which is all we can ask of anyone.

You're more full o' crap than a porta-potty. You were never a Mormon, and you clearly don't know fact 1 about the LDS.

By the way, you would benefit from a creative-writing class. Make you a better liar, if nothing else.

I don't think that the Mormons should have to apologize to women for polygny. After all, if I married two women, I think that would be bigomy (big of me, get it?) ha ha ha ha!
