TO be honest, if you really aren't ready for kids I would continue to use a condom as well or not have sex. Birth control is not 100% method.
However, if you started this month it should be working right away- as long as you are taking the pill at the same exact time every day. If you forget one day then the chance of pregnancy goes up.

it usually takes one month for it to take effect, but thats only going to work if you make sure you take your pill every day, on time. If your not ready to have kids, i would use some other form of birth control as well. pills are 98-99% effective, but thats still not 100%. Check out webmd.com or americanbaby.com

No, you are not safe. You need to go through a complete cycle of the birth control pills. So, safety would say give it two full months. The web site to read would be www.webmd.com

Best to wait 1 month for it to become effective. But remember it's not 100% accurate so you can still become pregnant.

i got told by doc it want be fully effective for a month so use other protection for the frist month as well

I believe it takes a month to be effective, one full menstrual cycle. I'm surprised that your Dr. didn't explain it to you.
