Swordtails will grow to 4 inches (not including tail).

Try adding a female Betta or a few Ghost Shrimp.

It will look nice.

If you have good filtration and do regular water changes you could add more fish - the one inch per gallon rule is rarely valid. But first, you should consider if your swords are mixed genders and might breed. If so, they could easily overpopulate your tank.

Another consideration is that most of the compatible species are schooling fish themselves, so you'd need to add a group of 3 or 6 depending on the species. Another case in which overpopulation might be likely.

Some additions you might consider would be a single dwarf gourami, otocinclus catfish (somewhat sensitive), a pair of African dwarf frogs, a few ghost shrimp, or an apple snail.

Nothing.
Adult size of sword tails is about 3 inches. The rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. So, 3 fish at 3 inches each is 9 inches. You want to be UNDER the limit for good health, so no more fish.

I would go with a small group of corydoras catfish. They have great personalities and are very friendly with everything.
