Firstly, I mean no offense to Christians. After all this is a philosophy forum. My thoughts are this. This moment exists, I exist, I exist in this moment. This can be observed as I am. That is all anyone can say with certainty. One moment I was in a non manifest state and now I am manifest in this body. How has this occurred? Where was I prior to this consciousness? Prior to conception where was I? Who am I?The presence of the sense I am is the only indicator of reality. I do not believe I was created by a God. Rather, I believe that all of this existence is an expression of the Absolute, Self, Brahman, Eternal Principle, God etc. The principle of Advaita (one substance not two) Tat Tvam Asi, that thou art resonates in my heart. All is one from the smallest microscopic cell to the largest mammal, from the infinitesemal grain of sand to the largest mountain. Everything! From this eternal principle, this manifest consciousness has arisen in an unsolicited manner and has no cause. You and I the eternal, who are actually one, are illuminating this consciousness, which in fact is non existent due to it's temporary nature. I am the seeds of this consciousness. Life as we know it is merely a play in the light of the Absolute. It is an experience which is witnessed in a detached manner. The idea of a vain, authoratarian God watching over and controling this world is very difficult for me to accept. In fact, if you think you can understand the underlying nature of reality or God, from the level of the mind and senses, it is not that.

The god in the Bible is meant to be the same divine nature in each person. It can be experienced differently by different people. When the Bible was written, the metaphors for the Divine that resonated with its writers and readers were those of an authoritative, separate, paternal type God. The nature of god in any scripture reflects the culture of the people who used that scripture to communicate about the Divine. Today, we seem to have lost track of the understanding that ANY description of "God" is oblique & metaphorical because the Divine is, by definition, ineffable, not capturable by any representation and language ... So you get this kind of confusion about ideas like "each our own god" and "God of the Bible" referring to totally different Things Out There.

my thoughts are that of course the god of the bible is one of authority. The bible is a book written by men in order to impress lessons and morals upon people - a mushy "tuck you in at night" god wouldn't exactly help these guys enforce the rules and behaviors they believed were necessary at the time.

--YES INDEED if we want be an impotent god, LIKE Narcissis!
--Love, Power(authority), Justice & Wisdom are the four cardinal qualities that God the Almighty has in ultimate perfection!
--DO YOU really think we can even come close to having a thousanth of a small percentage in comparison to him?
(Psalm 96:4-8) “4 For Jehovah is great and very much to be praised. He is fear-inspiring above all [other] gods.  5 For all the gods of the peoples are valueless gods; But as for Jehovah, he has made the very heavens.  6 Dignity and splendor are before him; Strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.  7 Ascribe to Jehovah, O YOU families of the peoples, Ascribe to Jehovah glory and strength.  8 Ascribe to Jehovah the glory belonging to his name;. . .”
--IF WE , as many small men in "high places" feel that we can compare ourselves to God , we are making ourselves like the foolish gods of nations!
--REMEMBER the lesson Pharoah had to learn as a man-made god, and how Jehovah God humiliated all the gods of Egypt as each of the 10 plagues showed!

Uh...there is only one God and yes he's in authority because he spoke the world into existence and is in control this very second. God is OMNISCIENT. That means He knows everything from the beginnig to the end. How can I say that I am my own god when I don't have the ability and authority He has???

All life is energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Energy goes from form to form. This is quantum physics. Ask a theologin who created the world, the answer is God. God cannot be created or destroyed. We are a part of God and we go from form to form. so we are not separate from but part of. We are in charge of us. We are in part and part of creation. There is always something greater than us. My analogy is the ocean. If you took a teacup full of ocean, that would be you, part of, not separate from.
