I mean, we only have limited time to live, and then we're gone. Forever. Unless you believe you'll be reborn of course, I'm not putting that down, I just think that it's unfair that we only have one chance. That sucks.

Okay, let's get this straight-I'm a Christian. I believe I'm going to live on forever with God in His kingdom, but we'll be gone from earth. Sure, our influences will last, but what if we don't make any influences? There are plenty of average people out there who never have and never will change anything that really matters. Life just ends. After long enough, you're forgotten.

Okay, look, I love life. I think it's beautiful and wonderful that we get to spend time here on Earth to have experiences, but I hate the fact it's all going to end and we're never going to come back. I don't know how else to say it.

You know what I've just realized? It;s not life that's depressing. It's death. The end of the road.

Well, you've answered your original question: it's a little depressing. A little. Because without seeing the negatives for what they are, the wonder and beauty of life cannot be appreciated.
Then you mention death, matters of faith, and making a difference within our lifetime.
What does it matter how much of a difference we have made and to whom? To have loved or been loved by another human being is enough to have made a difference. Take, for example, a baby who dies shortly after birth. The baby has made a lasting difference to their parents without any definite conscious act.
Some people make waves and their actions and words are plastered all over the newspapers. The rest of us make ripples, which can be extremely important. A small act of kindness, or having given an honest response to a question when it was needed can go a very long way indeed.
So, don't worry about death... live life... openly, lovingly and with honesty. Be the change you want to see in the world and don't worry about your legacy. Your life will touch others whether you realize it or not.

You should read some of Albert Camus' work, Sartre and Frankle, too, maybe. The existentialist philosophers help with this problem. They encourage people to find meaning in this life and to make the most of every experience b/c it may be your last. In fact, Camus believes that we should live this life as though god doesn't exist - whether we believe in God or not. He argues that if we live life as if there will be another one waiting for us after death, we might not live this life to its fullest. Which, if God gave us life, wouldn't god want us to make the most of that gift?

I do agree that the fact that the only certainty in life is death is a bit depressing; but thinking about the absurdities of life are the very things that will make life as wonderful as possible. We need to stop pretending that seatbelts and vaccinations keep death away - we all die anyway! Face up to that and start living :D

Yes you are correct ....It's not the life that gets depressed but it is the death that depresses us....Shall I say you one fact?
If you live a good person in this society and always care for others and takes care of every one and help the poor, old people and immediately help the people in need then they will surely remember you forever not only that they will also try to be like you....So you will get very happy when you see some one liking your qualities rather than phisically...
Then surely you will feel that even if you die at that moment there are many people who will follow you and take you to burrial ground and your thoughts and ambitions will live in their hearts forever......Then surely u will never fear for death and never get depressed instead you will invite it with smile and happiness that you have achieved some thing in your life...This is not philosophy but true facts...A person is really an excellent person if there are quite lot of people following his body to the burial ground...Dude I think u got my point...So never think about death and get depressed instead think about what can you achieve in your life......Go, do it...

I can relate, I used to think about that with my friend. We always wondered what would happen after we die? I know, our hearts stop beating, but what will happen to us? I'm not Christian, and so I think that maybe we just...disappear. Like get deleted away. It freaked me out the first time I thought about that.

But that's why everyone's telling you to live up life. Treat it as it's the only thing you have...so that when you think time's up, the memories you have are reminders to show you how well you went with life.

You have depressing thoughts for someone who loves life...but yeah, death has to take it away from us sooner or later.

It does seem a shame that we're all on a conveyor belt to nowhere land. Then again, I bet if people never died we'd probably be complaining about being "condemned" to an eternity of responsibility (or boredom).
We don't live forever, but at least we can cram lots of fun into the few decades we get.

maybe dieing isn't all that bad, maybe it really is "a better place" (that sounds kinda corny but well...) i think most people are afraid of dead because they are afraid of how they will be judged (if you belive in Hevean and Hell) if you lead a good life, you seriously dont have anything to be afraid of, there is no life without death and there probably never will be,
yea life can be depressing, but just take it as it comes
who says life is the end of the road????????????

You have a choice, you can see all the bad or you can embrace the gift you have been given. Like attracts like. People are magnets, so you might as well go for the good. The universe is ready to give you what you wish for, good or bad. Buck up kiddo, life is a banquet, start filling your plate.

Life is unfair. When you let go of the expectation that it will be fair -- each of these things lose their depressing nature.

If holding onto a belief about fairness leads to depression, then I suggest letting go of the belief that causes the depression.

Your strategy may differ.

One chance if you are listening to your ego, if you see the world from a larger perspective you will see that you are just like a cell in the body, and after you are gone your influence will continue on and proliferate.
