I have central air in my new construction condo and while the heating works fine, I recently flipped the fuse switch that powers the air conditioning. However, I can't seem to get any cool air blowing out. I was wondering if it takes a couple of days for it to 'charge up' before I start to notice any difference.

No, it should blow air out of the registers at about 45 to 50 degrees.

Take a look and see if the outside unit is running. You may have to put the 220 volt power on at the breaker for this to start. It should be labeled AC on the breaker.

If it is running outside, and no cool air is flowing, probably needs some Freon. But those units are precharged at the factory with the precise amount of Freon. If you have no leaks you will never need to charge with freon, your maintenance with be coil cleaning outside unit and inside unit, t hats about all that is needed ever.

Now, on your "new Construction" if that AC needs a Freon charge, that means that the job of installation has a leak in it. So you insist on them finding and fixing that Freon leak. Lost Freon on a new construction means a "defective " installation on the part of the AC & Heating Contractor.
Make sure you insist they find and fix the leak so that you wont be stuck with fixing it out of your own pocket.

If your air conditioning system is not blowing cold air you need to have maintenance check it out. An a/c unit does not have to 'charge' as per your thought. Stop using the unit until it is checked out, or you may destroy it.

My mom leased a house a few years back in a new subdivision and experienced the same issue with her a/c unit. They company had to send an a/c guy out to set the system or something, but she was told she was lucky she did not blow up the system by using it like it was.

sounds like its not charged or the outside a/c condensor isn't running. It will blow cold air right away if properly charged.
