I need to come up with a metaphorical symbol that represents Romeo Montague from Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'. I'm not very good at metaphors and would LOVE the help! Thanks :)

Ah, here's an idea. Ever heard of the saying "fortune's friend?" Well, I feel that Romeo was really "misfortune's friend." Romeo was the victim of awful luck and timing. Not only did the woman he love belong to the family that was his family's greatest rival, but at the end when Juliet uses the drug to put herself to sleep, he doesn't get the letter warning him to tell him that Juliet isn't really dead... I think that has to be the most horrible luck. So, to think of a metaphor, you could say "Romeo is misfortune's friend" or "Romeo is a victim to destiny's cruel joke." Try and highlight the fact that throughout the entire play, all of these really awful things happen to him: the death of Mercutio, the star-crossed love between he and Juliet, and his own suicide all because he THOUGHT his one true love was dead. Romeo's misfortune is a huge theme in that play, try and exploit it.

To think of a SYMBOL: Imagine that he is a target, and destiny is just firing arrows at him over and over again...

Throughout the play, Romeo is likened to darkness, and heaviness which contrasts with Juliet, always associated with light, so when they are together they shine. Maybe you could use a symbol which is dark and heavy?
