This website has a bunch of college tips to help you out!
Anyway, at my college there is an information desk. The people there should be able to help you find your classes or at least tell you how to get there. Most colleges have orientations, too, so at those you can get aquainted with other students and the buildings you will be studying in.
Most colleges have cafeterias. Mine has pizza, soup, sandwiches, and stuff like that. It's kind of like a deli. We also have vending machines with drinks and snacks. I'm pretty sure it's mandatory for all colleges to have some sort of food around, so your college will have at least vending machines. Oh, we also have a few microwaves.
And you don't know what to expect? Well, expect more responsibility because teachers will NOT hunt you down if you are missing work. Also, be prepared to call some of your teachers as "Professor" or "Doctor." They'll probably tell you how to address them at the beginning of classes. Some even let you call them by first name!
Also, you'll probably be allowed to carry cell phones around, and it's a lot easier to skip class. The skip policy is a lot more strict, too, though.
Good luck!

Just about all colleges these days have extensive orientation programs before school starts at which teams of students and faculty & staff will work with new students to make sure they know where they are going and what to do. And realize that every Fall, about 1/4 of the student body is made up of people who know just as little as you do, so some transition time is really expected. You will get maps and directions, there will be people to get you registered in your classes; even move-in to the dorms is tightly regulated at most schools these days, with letters going out to parents to tell them exactly what to bring, where to park, at what time to show up, etc. Don't worry - we've never had a freshman die of starvation due to inability to find the cafeterias yet, and everyone seems to find their way to classes on the first day! Plus, because everyone has a lot of questions, everyone talks to everyone else, and a lot of great friendships are formed this way!

All colleges host an Orientation session for their incoming students. Usually, there are several sessions throughout the Summer, before the Fall semester starts. So basically, you arrive at the univ. and you have to do a set of activities with an orientation team (who are trained for at about a year). This team is made up of students and faculty, and they try to prepare you for many things - how to enroll in classes, tell you about who to talk to when you have a problem, take you on a tour of campus, etc.
You will also most likely get help in choosing your classes. My best advice would be to try to enroll in an early session if it's an option - classes get filled quickly. You can also get an undergrad prospectus before you go there, and see what classes you have to take, so that you'll learn faster.
There's nothing else really - I don't think any high school prepares students that well for college in terms of expectation; but I am sure all univs. have programs to help out freshmen.
And yes - I would recommend finding all of your classrooms before your first day of class. Ask people/students if you're lost - usually, during the first week of classes, you'll see tons of students looking at maps, or walking about with maps in their hands.
Eat - there is usually a central cafeteria or food court. There may be several such places throughout campus. Don't worry too much about this - just be careful about their hours of operation.

Well, is it CLOSER or FAR. That's part one.
ALL Universties or Colleges have vending machines and cafeterias
There are also LOADS of FAST FOOD places on every corner.
As to what you eat, the SAME CARP you had in highschool, only more expensive! Carp, you know, is a very tasteless fish that's expensive and luke warm when you eat it.
The VENDING machines are LEGALIZED gamblign. You put your $3 in and and it stares at you with a blank smile and gives you nothing.
There are MAPS all over the place that NEVER show the building you have to attend!
Go there in advance and find your classes three weeks before you start them.
Draw your own map.
That's a part of college SELF INSTRUCTION
Get a Xerox card for the machine and put $50 on it and don't lose it!
In college you will be in at least ONE class with 200 to 400 other students with a Teacher who will have a blank expression on their face when you confront them and tell them you are their student (and they will TEND to deny such a concept and excuse themselves as if you were a Scientoligist or Jehovah Witness trying to get them to read Watch Tower).
YOu will be writing 20,000 words a week (with 7-20 references annotated in Chicago Manual style or similar style) and reading 100,000 words a week.
In your MATH class they will REVIEW your HIGHSCHOOL math in 15 minutes an then say
WE ARE GOING ON FROM HERE
And you will be lost before the first hour is up.
Same applies to Foreign Language
Most of the girls don't wear makeup and don't care. They are there to get a BA and maybe find a guy who is better than them, not cute, not buff, not football hero
Expect at least ONE girl to try and open mouth kiss you. Lesbian 101 is almost a manidtory course as is Beer Bong 101
People will study on the green
Play frisbee
Speak Nieche
Quote Mao
And EVEYRONE has been to WALDEN
You will LIVE int he LIBRARY which is open 7 AM to 11 PM M-Sat and 8 to 10 on SUnday
They use the Library of Congress system not the Dewey system
It is three times faster than high school, far more intense and your instructors will generate laughter at least once a semester.
YOu are not only EXPECTED to challenge them, IT's MANDITORY and they'll take you apart and love every minute of it and can't WAIT for you to reasearch and report their taking you apart.
The instructor WANTS you to prove him wrong, if you can! Good luck on that one!
He's VERY well read!
He's NOT some Highschool teacher jerk
He has at least a MA
He's Jett Li. He'll beg you, take your best shot and he'll duck you in front of everyone.
He wants to see what you're made out of.
BE honest.
In one of my courses we were told to see a play at a prestigious university and I hated it and said so and EVERYONE else RAVED about it because they thought they were supposed to be impressed.
The TEACHER agreed with me. It was HORRIBLE.
BE HONEST
SPEAK YOUR MIND right or wrong
College is NOT highschool it's NOT PC
It's about you saying "I think Communism is Great"
And then he smacks you around in front of everyone defies you to prove it.
WHY
You have a mind
YOu have an opinon
NOW back it up
Don't be a WHOOSE
Don't be afraid
Don't be PC
BACK IT
Even if it goes agaisnt his views BACK IT
BACK him into a corner
That is WHAT college is about
College is, ULTIMATELY you telling THEM something THEY DON'T KNOW
When you do that you get a PH D
Piled Higher and Deeper
Because you KNOW something NONE OF THEM KNOW
The ULIMATE GOAL of COLLEGE is for YOU to TELL the ENTIRE DEPARMENT in ELOQUENT LANGUAGE
SOMETHING THEY NEVER KNEW BEFORE
That PROVES to them that YOU are SUPER DOOPER!
Now, do you understand college?!

Universities have orientation days for first year students for exactly this reason. When you show up, they have signs and people to tell you where to park, where to leave your stuff, and where to go. They plan a few days of tours and activities so you can meet classmates and see the campus. They'll schedule an appointment with you and your adviser to sign up for classes, if you haven't done so already. So don't worry about it! Everyone feels the same way heading off to colleges, and the colleges know that.

A lot of colleges have summer programs where you can experience college life (in addition to usually getting college credit). If you participate in one of these summer programs, it'll give you a much clearer idea.
