I don't know of many cons (except that most internships are either unpaid or pay very little). Most entry-level jobs these days are asking for 1-3 years of work experience related to the field in which you want to work. The only way to get this experience, for most people, is by doing internships while in college. Furthermore, many students get job offers from the firms with which they did internships, since this has become the preferred way for companies to "audition" students for their jobs.
