The bike will start up fine and run for about a minute or less and then it will stall. It starts up again and does the same thing. If anybody has any suggestions on what to try please post them here. Thanks.

It sounds like a restricted fuel problem. The carb bowl fill with gas, it runs till the gas it gone and stops. The bowl fills again and it will start up. The coils failed in these and they would start and run for a few minutes, then quit and so on. I've owned several that did that, but it would normally take a few minutes to heat up the coil enough to create the problem.

You should do a complete tune-up on this bike to make sure all your bases are covered. Replace your points and set the timing. Change your gear oil. Clean your fuel tank and petcock. Replace your fuel lines. Clean and adjust your carb. Be sure to do a compression test at the same time.

It's an old bike (but a good one) and is probably due for some care.

If it runs OK for any perioid of time (even 1 minute) that helps in the diagnosis. You are basically down to 2 potential causes: electrical (spark to plugs) and fuel (proper air/fuel mixture coming from carb.). A fuel problem sounds more likely. Most likely, you need to drain the tank, clean it, and rebuild the carbs. GL!

There are many things to check.

is your carb clean? 1977? it could have a bunch of dirt in it, clogging the idle passages.

is the fuel fresh?

is the air/idle set properly?

What changed since the last time it ran well?
