This may sound strange, but you probley won't understand me completey.
I am 14, im pretty sure other people get's this.
Hmm.. let me attempt to explain this.
Right we'll when my mind would start drifting from what im doing. I'd start too day dream, etc. I may go into a stare, not a stare as in such, some people get where they actully go to sleep or something (with there eyes open) and you have to hit them. I still sense everything around me, I will still conintue the thing I was doing, but my mind seems to be gone, it is NOT an outer body experenice because I feel my mind inside my body, I still feel as one. Just serperated.
Now, what I am thinking. This is almost impossible to explain..
I get a sharp, sense of... total weirdness. Little scary. Everything is focused on every secound, I am only thinking of that secound. I would be thinking for example, where did everything come from etc. But in such a more, sharp, real, no anwser sort of way. Arghh out of space

The way I think of what is everything around me would be complety differnet to how I would think about it just on a noramal day.
I don't think about in a sense, wow this earth is so cool. I wonder if there is a good, where did this water, food etc. come from.
It's a sharp, bang, right there right now sense. It's deeper, too say, my eyes for example, how am I looking through these, What am I seeing (But I don't actully ask myself that question) I just sense it. Arghh so freakin hard to explain.
Well it's sorta like that, ask me more questons about it.
It has becoming much stronger latley.
I mean like I am getting those attacks, moments, more and more often. Same about of time though, they would last about anything from 5secounds to 2minutes.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I know this is a very long question.

I have these too.
You feel as though you are not there but are...
To me everything seems to slow down and colors blend. I can hear things better and it is weird. I think that i have the same thing that you do.

I vaguely remember having that happen to me when I was growing up. Sometimes, it'd be like my mind "took a picture" of the moment and I could refer to it later with vivid accuracy, as well.
If I had to speculate =D , I'd say: Your brain is developing fast, and a lot of new complexity of neural connections is being made and reinforced all the time. At 14 you are developing a lot of new abstract thinking ability you did not have before, and your ego is becoming a lot more complex. These moments may be moments when you are reverting to a more childlike way of perceiving - like an involuntary, high-quality meditation - perhaps because your brain is not yet able to constantly maintain your increasingly sophisticated thought patterns. And since you can now think in more sophisticated ways, your mind is on the lookout for deeper understanding of what it's like to be in this world.
I hope you enjoy your "attacks" - they sound sort of like what adults must practice meditation for years to achieve...

Your experience sounds very similar to the practice of meditation. In meditation, you do almost exactly as you describe (depends on the type of meditation), but part of meditation entails concentrating on the moment in the moment. You don't think about the past, future, or even present. You simply become aware of things as they happen, but don't cling to them in terms of thought.
In short, it sounds like contemplation...which is different then thinking. If you want to strengthen your practice, learn how to do insight meditation, which is basically sitting comfortably with your eyes closed or mostly closed and concentrating on the moment of now. Don't linger or attach to events as they come into your sensory awareness, simply be aware of them as they occur. Once you do this for several minutes, you will calm down (you cannot force it, just keep being in the moment and pull yourself back to the moment if your mind wanders). Once you've reached a state of calm, focus your attention from all of your senses to just the feeling of your breath. Watch with interest the qualities of your breath, but without lingering on these qualities. Watch the breath (the sensation of air in your nostrils/nose tip) as closely and calmly as you can and eventually you will see a nimitta, or bright mental light. If you keep at the practice, eventually you can enter states of bliss called "Jhanas" that many argue are better then sex (and these states can persist for hours). For a good book on the subject, check out Ajahn Brahm's book "Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond: A Meditator's Handbook " They sell it at amazon.com Hope this helps, and good luck!

The phenomenon is called dissociation. More vaguely the concept can be described as splitting.
The milder form is when we become bored with what is in our environment and go "into our heads".
People who have been subjected to violence, abuse, war, etc. will often do this when their surrounding remind them of past situations. Their mind and bodies are separated.

It sounds interesting but I would begin by discussing this with your pediatrician on your next visit, or sooner. You need to rule out things that are important to learn about early. Sometimes medical issues can change your perception. Look into it. Good luck!

it's calling "looking into the middle distance" or "thinking deeply" seriously next time someone hits you for it, hit 'em back... you have the right to think deeply and they have no right to take your rights from you (or hit you considering "my right to swing my fists stops at the the tip of their nose")
