I personally don't believe in testing and the scores are not always accurate. Many things can affect the scores including having a bad day, being nervous, expectations too high or too low, tired, etc and the list goes on. People know if they are gifted or if they are dumb. You don't need some number to tell you this. I know they use these as determiners for what grade a child is to be on or what level, but I think it is just wrong. It puts undue expectations on the child and can cause more harm that good. Some people and parents like it just so they can brag that Johnney is so and so IQ. Isn't he a genius. Come on.

I think the value lies in being able to identify those who have language disorders, learning difficulties or reading disorders as well as at the two ends of the curve --- the intellectually disabled and the high ability individuals and through this, be able to cater to their needs. It may not seem of much use for someone within the average range, which understandably is most of the population, but for these 'minority' groups, no other method has been found to be more effective in identification. And, additionally, IQ tests can also help identify the areas of strengths for those with learning difficulties and thereby help build on those. And since learning and how we perform at school is also involved in our self-esteem and self-confidence, it indirectly provides individuals with ways to deal with those. And no, I'm not talking about online IQ tests, but the actual ones where the psychs give reports and recommendations and referrals.

The tests can be used for many things. They are not tests of facts that a person knows. They test the inherent skills a person posesses for learning new things (which could mean new facts).
