That would depend on the cost of living in the area that you are in, and if you can live within your means. Do you need a simple house, and a dependable car? Or are you looking for that Mcmansion and a couple of SUV's in the yard? It depends on what you do with the amount of income you have. If you stay away from running up your credit cards, you can go far for less. If you have your car paid off ditto. There are many people who are making 6 figures who are broke all the time, so its more not the income but how you use it. Number one is to find a job that you enjoy even if it is for less money, you will farther ahead in the long run.

Depends on your location. In New York, you'll need a higher amount of money (perhaps well over $60,000) because of the high cost of living. You'll need even more to afford the taxes.
In some parts of the South, you can do well on less than $50,000. So much has to do with your personal taste and if anyone else will be contributing to your household.
There seem to be nice trailer parks everywhere! This will at least allow you to save more money for your dream home.
