When people are typing on here they use text typing like DA for THE and coz for Because, 2 for to or two, it really is ugly and just damn right lazy.

Yes it does, and frankly I find it worrying. People are that used to using ugly abbreviations that it is becoming acceptable as the norm. And It makes me wonder whether or not this lazy practice will indeed become 'the norm' and eventually influence and change the written language so lazy abbreviations will actually become the the norm. It may spell the end of proper grammar in the future. I'm with you all the way.

I'm totally with you on this. The examples you cite, plus the habit of using 'ur' instead of 'your'. It confuses me sometimes, because there is an ancient city called Ur and I think these illiterates are talking about that for a moment. Also, when 'y' is used instead of 'why', it puts me off, as 'y' is Spanish for 'and' and I think for an instant the person had lapsed into a foreign language.
(In a way, I suppose they have.)

It used to really bug me, but then I got to thinking "Hey, maybe this is really the only kind of 'English' some people can write, nowadays".
If it is- and sadly there's every chance- then it's very very sad, but not necessarily the writer's fault. Nobody chooses dyslexia for instance, and not many would choose a poor education.
So now, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and look through the writing to the quality of the question- and if it's worth answering, I answer.
After all, this isn't Yahoo Literary criticism, is it?
And if I'd realized you were a racist **** I wouldn't have bothered answering.

Well, sometimes I use DA because I like talking gangster for whatever reason my totally NOT gangster mind does, but other than that, YES! It GETS ON MY NERVES!!!! I mean, it really is lazy. And it just shows that they're horrible at grammer. It just dumbs down the people of today, and makes people sound dumb. It annoys me so much that I can't even really put into words how much I hate it!

It doesn't annoy me, nothing on here is worth getting upset or angry about.
If anything, it worries me that the youth of today will grow up being unable to read any word longer than four letters!

Hi sex on legs it is annoying. I think this texting will affect the younger generations ability to learn the English language as they are growing up.

Whilst many may advocate chopping the offender's fingers off, this seems a little drastic to me. I would generally be satisfied by simply breaking their fingers.

It only annoys me when it is used more than proper english. It's not in the dictionary and if you used spell check you would get it completely wrong! And why do people shorten a short word already? Da is only one letter less than the!

I sometimes use 2, wks, or cause. I like to write proper but when i see people using abbreviations, i tend to go of track. I think its the younger generation that tend to use it.
