This is a standard push mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine, not self-propelled or anything. It runs, then loses power for like two seconds, then runs for 15 seconds, etc. It doesn't slow down enough to keep it from cutting the grass, but I think it will eventually. Could it be a bad sparkplug? What else could it be?

Replace the air filter. It sounds like it's plugged.

I would suggest cleaning the carb throughly, and a tune-up!
Sounds like the carb isn't supplying the engine with enough fuel to operate properly, and is starving for fuel. A good tune-up once a year isnt going to hurt either!

Hi Steve,

It sounds like you have a fuel issue to me. Carburetor or gas line. Make sure the shut off valve if fully opened on the tank shut off and try adjusting the high speed carb screws.

Good Luck,

Norm

The carburator needs cleaning. It should be remove, cleaned and a rebuild kit installed. It is an easy job, most can do it themselves.
