another person's opinion? This comes up because I saw someone state that he/she was surprised by the level of ignorance in the Politics section.

That is true who cares. People in this section do like to call names. I appear to have insulted you when you asked a similar question yesterday in this section. I apologize. Hope we can move on.

I agree the answers here are often based primarily on opinion but I think that shouldn't be and certainly less than is now the case.
The answer to your question is both in my opinion. There are people who rightly call opinions ignorant based on facts and others who just call an opinion different from theirs ignorant.
I do agree with that poster however.Too many people here miss basic knowledge on the subjects they discuss and make factual errors in the statements they make.
I also believe the format encourages that.
In theory I could ask here is the earth flat and choose yes of course as best answer. If I have a group of twenty or more people who believe that we could get very far here while we all know that's nonsense.
Compliments on a great question

You've heard the old saying, "Opinions are like ---holes, everybody has one." Some or uninformed, some are thought up on the spur of the moment, some are just goofy, and others may be well thought out, well based in fact, and well presented. In the end, though, they're all just an opinions. I too have seen evidence of tons of misinformation in this category. Most of it comes from people who are so bent upon their own political party affiliation that they believe any and everything that's said regarding the other party. To me, a valid opinion is an objective one concluded after considering all sides of an issue and knowing (not just hearing) that their basis is on fact. That's why courts don't allow here-say as testimony.

In the politics section, answers and questions are mostly chiding other people. There's always going to be insults. And Yahoo must prefer it that way because of the bigotry they allow. I've answered the bigotry "very strongly" to put it mildly for the past two weeks and still can't get suspended. Go figure. This is not a serious forum. Don't let crybabies upset you.

depends on the subject...

some things are agreed on by almost everyone... based on hard to dispute facts...

others are very variable based on who you talk too... listen to and believe, sometimes from very viable sources saying two different things even...

global warming is a good example of this... a lot of facts on both sides, but no "proof" yet... the simple fact is, no one knows for sure either way...

A LOT of people on here say "your stupid" if you don't agree with them... few seem to realize that everything isn't black and white... and we don't know all the "absolute truths" to everything...

and then sometimes, people on both sides just parrot what they hear others say... not knowing what it's about...

there will always be some ignorance... everyone can't know everything... but, we are all ignorant of somethings...

those who think they know the most, sometimes seem to know the least...

and granted, anger can make people do stupid things, I know I've said stupid things on here in anger before...

Depends on the nature of the inquiry, some are valid, regardless of the opinions. Opinions do not trump, true facts

Some people know more than others. We don't all read or watch the same things. We have different educations, age and jobs. We are not equal.

Who cares you were just saying that people in the politics section can't handle the truth and revert to name calling so one minute your version is the truth now it is just an opinion. I am only singling you out becuase your name bugs the sh*t out of me. For someone who says she doesn't care you sure contradict yourself alot. Other than that I don't mind you at all.

Yes, all answers all opinions. But some people like to BASH you because of your opinion. So in reality they aren't free to say whatever they want because someone will call them an "idiot" or a "bigot".

Both. It boils down to:
If you work for a living, you are a Republican.
If you work for the Government or on Welfare, you are a Democrat.
Republicans want Less Taxes.
Democrats want More Taxes.
SIMPLE.
