why does the sound and video skip when watching on-line video?

whenever i try to watch something on you tube or any other kind of video the sound and video skips. does this have to do with the way the computer is set up or do i have to upgrade something? i'm pretty computer illiterate so thanks in advance.

A slow internet connection can cause that.

Sometimes that has happened, I refresh and then it doesnt seem to do it, hope this helps.
