Pan's Labyrinth, it was great. Not for young children though.
Anything by Almodovar, the Spanish director.
The Asterix films in French.
Betty Bleu - 37 du matin, yes I remember that, it was good.
I also enjoyed Goodbye Lenin, it was a recent surpise hit. Set in Germany.
You could also try Der Untergang, English title Downfall, about the last days of Adolf Hitler's life, but it is brutal.
And you must see Wings of Desire, original title was Der Himmel Ueber Berlin, the wonderful, beautiful film that that Angels with Nicholas Cage was based on.
If you can get hold of it, there is a great film set in the rural Netherlands called De Poolse Bruid, or translated as The Polish Bride, it's very very good.
Night on Earth by Jim Jarmusch was in various languages, it's very good also.
And of course Amelie, a wonderful film.

Betty Blue was amazing.
If you haven't already done so, check out Diva (Same director as B.B), Amelie- plus Delicatessen and city of Lost Children (if you can find them) and La Haine. Every one a gob-smacker.
Going back a bit further A bout de souffle (breathless), Le Flic, Don't shoot the piano player.
For something in Spanish ,Almodovars 'Women on the edge of a nervous breakdown' worked for me.
I can't stop now...... Solaris (the original) and Stalker by Andrei Tarkowski
Kagemusha! Dursu Uzala!- both Kurusawa- the guy who made The Seven Samurai.
Ai no Corrida (very sexy!)

La Nueva Cinema Paradiso (usually listed as just Cinema Paradiso). It is one of the most touching films you will ever watch, and it is about a man who ran the projector in the cinema in a tiny town in Italy, and a little boy wanted to be exactly like him. Film makers should definitely see this one. It is by far the best foreign film I've ever seen. Remember to bring the tissues!
