Almost every second hand store has a section of fabric. Sometimes you find some cool vintage prints too. There is also a really cheap basic woven beige cotton called muslin that you can get at fabric stores for under a dollar a yd. It is used for constructing a garment and tweaking the pattern before you cut into your nice expensive fabric.

Go to eBay and look in the fabric section. In the search box, once you get to fabric, type "fabric yard" if you don't want to see tons of quilt squares. Then go down the lefthand side of the screen, where you can set preferences of what types of items you want shown. You can select a price range. I usually type in .01 to 1.99 and come up with a huge selection. Go take a look.

It's not online, but do make it known among your friends and acquaintances that you're looking for inexpensive fabric. Many people regularly clean out the sewing room and have stuff they want to get rid of. Keep your ears open.

If you feel like going to a store, go to wal-mart, thay have a $1.00 a yard section that you can find cool stuff in. Also there outher fabric is relly cheap, like $2-3.00 a yard for callicos, and thay always have cute stuff at the one by me.

*beware of Ebay, some time fabrics are not trust worthy, or thay over charge on shipping.*

Its interesting that you ask this because I am facing this issue myself. I discovered one of my favorite ways to find cheap and unique fabric is to go to a salvation army or a savers and buy king size sheets. They have really cool patterns and are often vintage. Its kinda weird but I like making dresses out of them.

Depending on how much you'll need, You can visit your local thrift/resale store & go thru the bedding section. You'd be suprised to see all the cool designs used in sheet-Making...Also, this is a great time of year for garage sales, where you can pick this stuff up for next-to-nothing!

Try Fabric4Less - they have sales of great fabrics for $3.50/yard and $1/yard - but you have to buy the entire bolt. They're great for quilting fabrics, and also carry flannels, polar fleece, and velvet.
