several things.
The pully could be ready to seize, the alternator may be wearing out, Transmission grind, worn belt, or, your Air conditioning unit is in that area and may be ready to crap out on you

Seems to me like your auto belt is worn or your starter is faulty. Replacing the belt is about $25 and you should be able to see it under the hood. See if has wear damage, and if so get it replaced, you could probably do it yourself. Otherwise bring the car to the shop and have the starter checked and replaced if necessary, usually runs $100-150.

if its hard to start like u say and only makes sound some times sounds like the timming is off which may cause ur timming chain or belt to become loose and cause the noise u here have ur timming checked u may need to replace the belt or chain good luck

who knows old age wear and tear as long as you have park reverse nuetral and drive the trannsmission is working fine. I have had many cars with the gear indicator off and I had no problem telling what gear Im in . its not that big of a deal.

Ford is found on road dead, I would never have got a ford. The ignition is probably going bad if it happens when you start it.
