John Stockton has to rank up there pretty high but the fact that the Jazz were at there best in the "Jordan Era" cost them a couple of rings. Stockton was a great player and was one of the last true point guards that the NBA will ever see. He deferred his game a lot. In my opinion John Stockon did everything that Steve Nash now does for the Suns. The only difference is that Stockton did not look for his own shot as often as Nash. I believe that if he had wanted to, Stockton could have averaged 20 plus points a game... he was that good... There are people who will call Magic better because he has 5 rings, but he was really a forward playing the point. Yeah, I think Stockton was the best
Just for the record... Iverson is not a point guard... he is a shooting guard, a two guard. No one should compare him with Stockton as far as being a point guard goes.

The best point guard ever is Majic Johnson. Stockton beats him in career numbers when it comes to assists and steals. Johnson scored way more points than Stockton and is right behind him in assists and steals. Johnson had way more rings than Stockton. Majic was bigger, faster, and smarter. Stockton was more of a traditional point guard, a pass first style. His offense was one dimensional, pick and roll, or take the perimeter jumper. Majic broke the mold for what a point guard is expected to do in the NBA. He drove to the lane like a slashing shooting guard. He could rebound like a power forward then run the fast break like Steve Nash and if he wanted he could finish like Vince Carter. Put Majic Johnson on the Utah Jazz teams of the 1990's in place of Stockton and I bet Utah wins in 97 and 98 against the Bulls. I would argue that John Stockton is better than. say, Steve Nash though.

Yes.. he is clearly the best NBA point guard of all-time. He lead the NBA in steals and assists all time. He was also a proficient offensive threat. He rarely turned over the ball. Michael Jordan is the reason Stockton amd Malone don't have two titles for the Jazz.

Give me Magic Johnson or "Pistol" Pete Maravich. Magic was one of the most versatile and talented players in the history of the NBA. He averaged 19 pts, 7 rebs, and 11 asts over his career which is ridiculous. Not to mention his 5 rings and 3 MVPs. Oh, and his 12 all-star games. And then Pete Maravich, who was showtime before showtime was cool. He was one of the best passers ever seen. He could go between the legs, behind the back, no-look, etc. He was also an extremely adept scorer. Making circus shots and playing from beyond the arc. He opened up the game for today's generation.

In my opinion, John Stockon was not the best point guard ever in the NBA. He was indeed a legend who loved to play physical and so did his colleague Karl Malone. John made his team mates better, which is the primary responsibility of all point guards. He will not be respected like many other guards in the NBA. Why? Because he didn't win a championship (or did he?). He will surely be on the hall-of-fame.

To me, while Stockton was great he wasn't the best ever.
Isiah Thomas led Detroit to back to back titles.
Bob Cousy and Jerry West led their teams to mutiples titles and are first ballot Hall of Famers
Oscar Robertson set the standard for every point guard that has come after him.
So while Stockton was great, he wasn't the greatest.

No, Oscar Robertson was (before the term "point guard" was even invented). Until Michael Jordan came along, The Big O was the best player ever.

Currently, yes, but Steve Nash may go down eventually as one of the greatest, topping Stockton. His two NBA MVP awards will be help....
