Of course people make the decisions what to eat. The fast food doesn't walk by itself into people's mouths! Everyone knows what is healthly and what is not! I think the parents are to blame for childhood obesity.

The mere availability of this food is not solely to blame-obesity is something that is caused by many different factors. As others have posted here, if you eat this type of food in moderation, even on a regular basis but stay active, there is little to worry about. Other factors in obesity include poor self esteem, which contributes to overeating, the relative inexpensiveness of the food, and the general culture of malaise and instant gratification corporate America has created and exploited. When a person is subjected to advertising such as that shown by McD's (Ronald McDonald and his cohorts) at an early age, it fosters a sense of well being later in life when you consume the food associated with those childhood memories. All of these things combined equal fat, consumeristic Americans, usually ignorant of how they're being manipulated by those in power and the corporations that they channel their subtle influences through. Make no mistake about it, they are in it for their own benefit, not yours.

Yea, the fast food isn't to blame. It's the person eating the fast food that should be blamed. People have no self control. There are a lot of bad choices out there that make it more difficult to be healthy these days and I do think parents have a lot to do with it. People should be teaching their kids good eating habits instead of being lazy and getting their kids happy meals instead of cooking them dinner...

You bet it is. Fast food causes alot more bad things than just obesity. It increases certain diseases, and it's just downright bad for the soul. Believe it or not, you can even become addicted to the food. I am living proof of that, since I used to eat fast food all the time as a child and I would have unbearable cravings for the food. To solve that problem, I simply decided to quit eating fast food. Now, I have NO cravings of fast food and I think it's totally disgusting. Also, McDonalds has grade "D" beef, among other things. So if I were you, QUIT EATING FAST FOOD!!! And start eating your fruits and veggies! ^_^

Fast food is only a contributor. Modern Americans sit on their butts too much. When I was a zygote (and dinosaurs roamed the earth, LOL), we were outside all of the time running up and down hills and playing sports. Kids today only play sports with their thumbs and a PS3. We used to go to McDonald's after playing a football game (if we won).
Now kids go there instead of school lunches.

Actually, I grew up on fast food, and I can't get anyone to agree that I am the slightest bit overweight. I do however have a really high metabolism. A lot of people who see what I eat and how much I eat tell me that they wouldnt be able to consume the same portions without gaining weight. It has a lot to do with genetic make-up and physical activity.

there are many factors involved. if you ate mcdonalds once a month it wouldn't be a problem. if you ate mcdonalds once a week and ate standard portion sizes (not large or supersized) you still wouldn't have a problem. i know lots of people that eat fast food regualarly and that is a problem. people try to pragmatize things -- a friend of mine eats kfc mac n cheese and acts like just because its a small amount of food for dinner its ok -- its not just portion size -- its whats in that portion. and mac and cheese isn't exactly a cesar salad. people also eat an enormous amount of "snack" food at home. chips and dip are fat on top of fat. people need to go back to basics. veggies, small portions of meats, carbs and grains like rice, potatoes, etc. just simple basics. most people would never deep fry food at home but have no problem eating it out -- i don't quite get the logic.

No, I don't believe food has the power to make anyone fat. However, poor food choices, lack of exercise and the desire for instant gratification has led many people to become unhealthy, of which obesity is only one problem. In other words, humans make themselves fat through bad choices.

It's the people themselves, not the fast food places, because the people make the choice to eat their food.
