Why is it important to be informed and think about current news ,politics ,social issues, world news...
I was really interested in them ,especially when I was at early 20s , now I'm 27 , I'm still interested and follow these issues but , I see a lot of people who don't know anything about them but live happier ,they don't bother themselves about what is happening around them. life easier for them,
let me add I'm not American , maybe situation is different there , ... I don't know if I could clearly describe my question or not ,but please let me know your ideas.
thanks

Great question:

But are they really happier?
Being ignorant to what is happening around you may make you feel happy on the surface but you can't completely insulate yourself from what is happening unless you move to the mountains and leave behind any vestige of modern civilization.

I know how you feel because I struggled with that often. I've even tried once to let it all go but the reality is that even though I am disappointed at how humanity hasn't gotten their priorities straight, it's better to be informed and debate the issues with wayward folks than to sit and do nothing with your head in the sand.

And staying informed is not watching the news or listening to politicians, you have to go beyond that rubbish and read, the truth is out there.

Good luck and I hope you find your way to your satisfaction.

Is your question really
"Is it better to be ignorant about the activity going on in the world you live in and therefore are happier?"

If so I think not. It is an response for which the future generations would not have the freedoms that we are gradually losing because the vast majority of Americans are not in touch with the current events.

There are still people who believe the a passenger jet crashed into the Pentagon. Even the French don't think so.

In a democracy, the people are the government (to some extent beneath layers of bureaucracy and money). What happens is thus ultimately our responsibility collectively.

For example, when someone is put on trial for a crime "the people" are represented by the prosecutor who may try to have the accused person executed. I don't want to take the chance that a mistake is made, so I oppose capital punishment.

The rights of the unborn were taken away by judges appointed by elected presidents and senators, and I don't want to feel responsible for their deaths, so I want the government to promote development of nonlethal pregnancy termination technology so we can restore the right to life without forcing women to carry an unwanted baby for 9 months.

I suppose some people are happier if they tune it all out, and that is their right, but I would feel like an accomplice in the deaths if I did nothing to change things.

Theres nothing wrong with being informed.
The really happy people that don't follow current events are doomed to live at the wishes of others - meaning that by being informed, you vote for who you feel is best, and assuming that the uninformed don't care, they will go with whomever the majority thinks is best - or not vote at all.

Also, being informed is being prepared - take global warming for example. As a follower of current news, you are probably aware of what to do to slow global warming. Those that don't know anything about it don't even care about it. I don't want them living next to me.

In any aspect of life, there's something to learn, and staying on top of it doesn't necessarily have to mean that your life is harder. I totally understand what you mean, but the world needs more people like you - staying current - and fewer people with their heads in the sand.

well because most of us where not informed due to lake of not carrying enough to know that hey they are others who leave around the world that our foreign polices, have caused so much
pain and head ache to them.

thanks to our government and politics.
that is why most of us are so overwhelmed and confused.

most of us are so uninformed about our surrounding , most of us leaved our liefs as if it is just us, and no other country or any other group of people exist.
it is the recent news that have opened our eyes to other country's and the humongous problems that we have right now.
these recent problems have made us to think, and we are asking why and how it happened.

we should not stop asking and demanding from our government the big WHY ???

what is really happening, did we do something way prior to this development.

i do not thing for once we asked ourselves s, that do we have the right to push and shove our believes and ideas to whole other different culture.
Just because it worked for us it does not mean others will welcome with there open arms to our ideas.

it seem that we have forgotten that their history and culture is way way older and deeper than ours.

You have the right to tune it all out. Just remember that right is precious, like all our other rights, and with it comes responsibility. Can you abdicate your right to vote and still claim you're responsible? Can you vote intelligently without knowing what the issues are? Yes, it's a balancing act, between knowing what's happening and obsessing. None of it is worth giving yourself a stress-related illness. Someone once called for "moderation in all things," but someone else declared that "constant vigilance is the price of liberty."

I believe it is still important that u stay on the issues...because if not the same that is happening in the US will happen to you...50% of the US population can't tell you what continent Iraq is on or that there is war in Afganistan. Even if the news worry u I think it is better to be worried but aware than to ignore everything.

Most Americans follow the rule of human relations:"Never discuss religion or politics." They know what they want their government to do, but they do not want to loose friendships, a job, or customers over a political question. Therefore, they will do anything and say anything to avoid discussing these things except with their closest friends and relatives.

They say ignorance is bliss. But people like that remind me of the lambs going to slaughter. They don't know they are about to be killed and so jump and play and are happy. They don't know enough to be afraid, because they are dumb animals. (no offense to the animals meant, that is just what they are) They will never make a difference in life as a whole. Of course to thier friends and their family they will matter, but by not getting involved and educating themselves, they will never be part of the solution, just part of the problem.
