The answer is 2.625. You get this by writing the whole number (2) followed by a decimal point and then using regular long division to divide the denominator (8) into the numerator (5), giving a result of .625.. Then put this with the same 2 that you began with. This method can be used for any fraction.

The usual answer is 2.625.
But let's liven the party up a bit. The other possible answer is
2.6249... where the nine should be written with a bar over it indicating that the 9's go on infinitely. I do not mean the finite number 2.6499999999999999999999999999999999999
or any number of that sort. Attaching another thousand or million 9's will not help. The 9's are infinite and therefore the number is equal to 2.625!
