the conclusion isn't quite without ambiguity (as usual, NVidia is cheating and cutting corners to make their products faster, but if you look at the core features, you'll see that the 2900 is more future proof then the NV8800 series.
finally, for the price of the full X2900XT you'll only get stripped down NV8800s, thus at comparable price, the 2900 will outperform any 8800, even with today's games.
bottom line: if you are smart, take the X2900XT.

Under test results the 8800 GTX is better and the 8800 GTS and the 2900 is about the same in performace.

Ok, neither of them will work for hardcore gaming. For hardcore gaming you will need an nVIDIA GeForce or an ATI Radeon 9600 series with ATI Catalyst Controls. Or something better than these.
