I like this question! If we are exposed repeatedly to any kind of advertising, most people do tend to act and behave accordingly. It would have a positive effect on all but the most miserable of people.

What is interesting is that when Mayor Rudy Guiliani asked fellow New Yorkers to smile and make eye contact with each other, it really changed the feeling in that city. We used to go there quite often both before and during his term of office, and people did respond just to the suggestion of a public official asking people to smile more. That and getting the garbage off the streets really made NYC a nice place to visit mid 90's.

Our problem is the beliefs that we hold to be true. Until we are open enough to acknowledge that our beliefs lead to problems we consign ourselves to lives of unpleasantness and suffering.
