I have thought up a product which is fairly easy to manufacture and has a pretty good shot at steady sales. I'm not after "great wealth," and I am not an engineer or a manufacturer [I'm a college professor of ancient history] and would prefer to sell the whole package outright. I know what I would like to get, but I have no idea if it is a fair price or not.

You'd probably do better trying to negotiate royalties on sales. If someone else has to set up the manufacturing and sales streams, they're not going to expect to pay you much up front.

As far as getting a patent, it's a good thought, but you can't patent just an idea, you need to have a working model of your invention.

Hmmm sounds like a pickle if you say what you have and they say I'll pass and do it anyway better get a pattent and the rights then advertise it those invention places are a scam.
