Hi,

I have been wondering about this recently as every time you go into an electrical retailer, the salesperson always says they own what you are looking at.

If this is true then they must be paid millions!!!!

Salespeople work on commison ( a form of bonus payment for selling more of a certain prooduct)

Commision is basically a way off keeping a retailers costs down, as commison salaries are usually minimum wage. The incentive therfore is to sell whatever crappy product is on offer to bolster a shitty wage - hence they tell you they own everything to try and sway you into buying it.

Capitalism at its best.

If your in a shop then the guy is usually on a crap wage, (minimum or just above) and he is on commision. By telling you that he or she owns the product you are looking at, it is supposed to make you feel more secure and safe about making a purchase. This should be dropped in AFTER they have built a rapport with you so that they are your best friend for the 10 minutes you are there. It is meant to be said as an afterthought, not one that you register, but one that your subconscious mind registers, if your picking up on it blatently then either your a nightmare to sell to, complety unreceptive, or its just that the sales guy is utter shite at his job. even if you are difficult, the sales guy, if any good would be able to talk you round anyway.
