Does any one know what these horrible little things are? Should I leave them be or should I get rid of them when I find them? What do they turn into? Will they eat my plants?

They don't have any legs. They are the size of a finger nail but oval in shape with one pointed end. The 'thing' has ridges on it and the end definately moved.
IThey were dark red colour. I don't know what to do leave or get rid!!

That sounds a lot like a moth larvae! They won't do any harm to your garden. Just leave them where you found them. Please don't kill them!

Were they actually grubs or pupal cases? If they were the pupal case, could be the tomato horm worm .....squish that sucker!! Grubs, if they have little "legs" are the larval form of beetles......and are big eaters. If they are legless grubs, you've got fly larvae called maggots but they are't "hard."
