I actually do get along with my father, now. However, when I was a teen, we hated each other. I was sure his sole mission in life was to make me miserable. Now (I'm 28) I choose to live only about 3 miles away from my parents because I enjoy spending time with them so much. My dad and I can joke about things that no one else gets...he's become "cool" :)

If you're young, hang in there. Things with parents are tough when you're a teen, but it DOES get better. We have a running joke in our family that as I got older, my parents got smarter ;) If you're an adult and still having problems, choose to distance yourself from him.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know my father loves me but when I was a teen, I really felt that my dad thought I (and my brothers) were a big inconvenience. My parents were married for 22 years before they got a divorce. We stopped communicating after the divorce. Now, we only see each other at funerals.

My dad wasn't very affectionate and he didn't have an interest in me when I played sports or brought home good grades. The only time he showed affection was when he and my mom dropped me off to college. He cried and I was shocked!!!!!

I'm 34 and He's 60 now. We're cordial to one another but it's difficult.

It's difficult when you love someone unconditionally and the feelings aren't returned. I know it's very important that your father is proud of you. Do you know why he doesn't respect you or why he hates you? Was there an argument? Difference in opinion or life goals?

no I hate my fathr 2 pieces! he left when I was baby and wen my sis was 5! he would never call me or my sis! I would only see him for christmas! he decided to go on a fishing trip instead of going to my birthday! I cry sometimes cuz I wonder why he cant be the father that some kids have! he is the worst he picks his other kids over me and my sis! I hate him!

Some people cant help themselves, thats the way theyre made.
Even if its true that he hates u , which is highly unlikely, dont let it get to u so much that u want to die.
We have to accept things we cant change. Or else we hurt ourselves the most.
My father, cant say hates me, but sure has hurt me in the past. I have long since forgiven him/both parents. U cant hold a lifelong grudge. It ruins u.
So i say u accept what u cant change and dont let it get to u, easier said than done, but not impossible, i know.

The best thing to do is just ingnore it . parents are there to drive you up the wall. Or try to keep busy stay away from the house that way they won't be there to annoy you then. but you should never want to kill yourself ,you can't end pain with pain its no that serious and its not worth it.

yes, my father loved me and often told me he did just before he died he called all of us his seven daughter up for a family meeting to let us know that he was going home to be with the Lord and for us to be strong and that he loved us all. And your father loves you also but just don't know how to say it nor can he say it .But he does LOVE YOU!you have got to ignore the devil he is here to kill, steal, and to destroy and make you think that your father doesn't love you you need to learn to pray and get that type of thinking out of your mind.

Ya know I'm not sure, I know he loves me but I not real sure he likes me, He's a hard man, But a good man, And ya I'm not real sure that I like him, But I really love him alot, I know I'm may not be a big help but you can love someone and not like them, and guess what it's OK. P.S. Nobody is worth dying because of, as you grow you will find your own way and that's OK too.

im sorry. my dad and i have a good relationship. i mean i dont go to him for advice and such, unless its 'man' stuff, i.e outside things, lawnmowers, weeds, stuff like that. but we are identical. same attitude and personality, thats we get along, and clash at the same time...both BULL HEADED!
