Interesting question, and deserves a better and more considered answer than one akin to 'Of course not and those b*****ds bomber my granny'.If Germany had won WW1, there would probably not have been WW2, as it was the imposition of extreme financially punitive measures at the armistice that lead to the Weimar Republic and the German financial collapse, which created the conditions suitable for the rise of an extreme political element. (Nazis) The Germans did not have the capability to invade England at this time as the High Seas Fleet was no match for the Royal Navy, so an all out defeat for Great Britain would never have been an issue. A more equitable armistice in this case would have resulted maybe in subsequent fighting between France and Germany, with a possible re-run of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War, but probably not WW2. Britain would not have needed to mortgage the future to finance WW2, no lend lease, and the British Empire would have lasted longer, although probably in the form of semi-autonomous protectorates with the Queen as head of state.

Now we assume the position where WW1 happenned as it did, but Great Britain lose WW2. Hitler never wanted war with Britain. He considered the British to almost equal to themselves and a more natural ally than an enemy. Although there were ups and downs in the U-Boat war, the Kreigsmarine were not a match for the Royal Navy and this must have played a role in the abandonment of Operation Sealion. (Invasion of England). But let us assume for a minute that the Luftwaffe did not make the crucial error in 1940 and switch from bombing the RAF infrastructure to bombing the cities. England could have been bombed, if not into submission, then certainly in a position where they would be forced to accept disadvantageous terms for peace. Russia would not have broken their peace treaty with Nazi Germany in 1941 and if there were to be American involvement it would be restricted to conflict with the Japanese, which the Americans would ultimately win, but probably not until 1947/8.

Britain would spend the next 50 years governed by a puppet regime installed by Berlin, but the average Briton would prosper within the Greater German Reich and assume key positions. There would be no Israel, so no Arab-Israeli War. It would be highly unlikely that any Arab grouping would wish to incur the wrath of Berlin, so no Osama Bin Laden. There would be no Arab oil power, because it would simply have been taken at will by the Germans. The master race would include UK nationals who passed the necessary genetic criteria. German would be the major language of commerce and major internet sites would all end .de. Better off financially and better of from a security point of view, but at the expense of freedom of thought, free speech and our souls. Is that better off ? You decide.

I don't know about England but I've often wondered what way Ireland would be now if they'd won, Ulster and all that.

Robin Hood: I know the ROI was neutral but Ulster wasn't. Having a powerful neighbour isn't the greatest thing for a small nation, as shown by past and recent history. The Nazis would have been powerful indeed if they'd beaten the British.
I reckon they'd have set up their Reich here, too. Incidentally, thousands of Irish citizens fought and died in that war.

Having been to Germany for work, I find it a very grey country very industrialised.
I prefer colourful England, thank you very much.

If Germany won the war I would not be here, so No I do not think England would be better off.

Not in any way. The plans the Nazi's had would their invasion of Britain been a success would have had a devastating impact upon all citizens of these islands.

Freedom would not have been an option. Slave labour and concentration camps would have led to many of our close ancestors dying before many of us alive today were even conceived.

The world would have been obliterated by nuclear weapons, as the Nazi's would have certainly developed them to use against the USA and USSR.

i don't think so. before everything how are you able to heavily say that they had the main suitable technologies? individuals superior the nuclear bomb formerly they did. besides the certainty that they have got been engaged on it additionally, i might say that our technologies grow to be extra suitable. how are you able to declare they have been attempting to foresee the destiny? by killing people who might desire to probably resolve issues? save in mind that many of their precise scientists got here to the U. S. formerly the conflict, by using political persecution. That benefited u.s. not them. What their plan grow to be to exterminate another race that grow to be Germanic. you could not arbitrarily say that different races have not got the stunning to stay or that the worldwide may be extra helpful off with out them. worldwide inhabitants may be an argument, yet you do not resolve this by exterminating human beings. How might you experience if somebody desperate this is sweet to die because of the fact of your race? I guess you may think of it fairly is very unfair. I do exactly not see how any race can rationally state that they have got the stunning to opt for what sections of the full human race gets to stay of die. look at Germany at present. they're a western financial equipment and rich besides the certainty that they're a welfare state. even however if whilst in comparison with individuals, not many have great indifferent homes and BMW/Mercedes in theirchronic techniques. you think of that they might have extra financial freedom and prosperity in an oppressive government? I do exactly not purchase your argument. The Germany of the Thirties and WWII grow to be an extremely oppressive habitual that endorsed mass homicide. It grow to be run by a psychotic man or woman who had no regard for anyone yet himself.

I Understand why your asking this question, god knows ive asked it myself, but if you look at the Nazis plans for post invasion Britain they intended to ship every male over the age of 14 to continental concentration camps. So the answer is very much NO.

Well, being as the Nazi party was in power then your question must really be would England be better off if the Nazi's had won the war?

No of course it wouldn't be better off. The country would be run by a bunch of facists. Ethnic cleansing and genocide would have taken place on a massive scale.

This country has its faults but I for one prefer the current version to the one you appear to favour. May we continue to be a diverse country, accepting all cultures and nationalities.

Rachel M- The Republic of Ireland was a neutral country during the war.

Germany lost the war and the Nazi ideology had a setback, but their ideology survived through their sympathisers in the US. Bushes grandfather (prescott bush) was linked to Nazi bankers and the US military complex happily took their best scientists to enhance their technological advances in rocket theory and WMD development.

I've read history and biography books extensively. What I have learned is that the King Edward was actually a Nazi sympathizer. And that the Nazis considered the English their "natural allies" and were quite upset at being at war with them.

England need only look to their royal family (which has German antecedants) to see the connection.
