Is the traditional concept of marriage outdated?

No, no, and NO!
If you don't want to commit for life, don't get married.
I don't want the meaning of marriage to be diluted by those who prefer serial monogamy. You can have your lifestyle, that's fine with me, but you need a separate label for your relationship.

That's why domestic parnership benefits exist. Every state should have a domestic partnership option in addition to marriage. The DP package should always have a pre-arranged distribution of assets at the end of the contract term (akin to a prenuptual agreement). The only part I have not figured out is how the addition of children fits into this legal arrangement.

No, your marriage has to grow if it is going to make it. If Man and woman do not bond well, then disaster happens. If they bond well then the pleasures of marriage out last the bad times. The traditional concept of marriage will never be out dated, The world just makes it harder for them to last.

But it should expire in 5 years and an option to renew.

Yes i think it should be. Everything needs to be "updated",even marriages.
