I know some people who do court-appointed criminal defense work who do not look at the file until they are in the hallway outside the courtroom.

Most of those guys are the kind of people who will try to get the best plea bargain they can and have their clients plead guilty.

Lawyers go to court knowing what to do they review the cases but are unprepared on some of the questions the defense or prosecution attorney will ask

Of course , you'll be surprised. This happens more often than you know.
The worst are the public defenders who like someone said, "many do know nothing about the case until is is time to go in the court room".

Ofcourse...some are inxeperiance...some are silly, some are overworked like prosecutors and public defenders there are a number of reasons why they might be unprepared.
