Check with the city hall about the zoning rules. More than likely if you are in a residential area, it is not allowed. If it is allowed, I would not recommend using it - if a kid got injured from it, you more than likely will be liable.

I have suggested this to another with a similar question as yours: How about planting Barberry bushes or other thorny bushes to discourage the kids. Also, if they start to damage the bushes you are using for your landscaping then they will be liable for damages - - and have a few thorns to pull out.

Your biggest thing to remember is that you do not want to show any type of intent to cause injury when "fixing" your problem. If any intent can be proves then you will be liable for civil and possible criminal punishments.

Probably the best thing to do is to find out who the kids are and talk with their parents about your issues. It may or may not do any good, but they will know that there is a problem. Post "NO TRESPASSING" signs in the area - if the kids continue to get in, you may need to let the police scare them a little -- something about sitting in the back of a patrol car for a while to get their attention.

Hope that this gives you a few ideas on solving your problem. Good luck getting things resolved.

It depends on where you are. The problem is not whether it is legal or not to put barbed wire up on your fence, it is more to do with whether someone who injures themselves on the barbed wire can sue you. I had a place that backed on to a piece of open space. The rear of the property was thus fairly easily accessible - all you needed to do was scale a standard 6ft fence. I secured the place by growing a rambler rose along the length of the fencing. This provided a very dense thorny mass which was not easy to get over. It was also far more attractive year round to look at. Final thought. A determined thief will merely place a lump of carpet over barbed wire and climb over.

Two things to check. City regulations. When I mounted barb wire on my fence because I had a pool, I was told that I could do it if the wire was on my side of the fence and mounted on a 45 degree angle upwards (much like prison wires). I also checked with my homeowners insurance company. They allowed it because of the pool but I don't know in your case and reason.

Barbed wire is illegal in the domestic situation. The consensus is that a child could be badly injured. A PIR floodlight might be the better solution. Thieves and vandals hate to be illuminated. If it's a daytime risk a dummy CCTV camera will deter. The other options are plastic spikes, or anti climb paint not sure these are too much of a deterrent though.

I recommend two German Shepard's.
That should keep the punks out of the yard.
Also you can run an eleritic dog fence (the wire) right on top of the fence, that way when they go to jump it, they get a little shock. Make sure you have lots of warning signs other wise you will get sued

Yes, but you will be liable, both criminally and civilly if one of the children gets hurt, even if they were tresspassing. And the damages will be substantial. You would also not generate much goodwill in the commmunity.
You might wish to think of a more PR friendly method of keeping the kids out. Material that would cut children if they try to venture into your yard just makes you look bad.

I would say you probably could use barb wire; but to be safe you should check with your local city hall (or even with a supply company , Home Depot or? - they should have a pretty good idea of local regulations)

I think the best way is to check with your city council to see if its legal.
It could be and it could not be, many people put barbed wire up dispite it being illegal, its the only real last resort for tackling yobish behavour. But i would still advise you to contact your city council, if that will do any good.....
