Its only been less than a week since I got my lower right lip pierced. I love it to pieces minus the constant comments that it looks like someone went fishing, caught my lip and left in the hook but *shrugs*. Now my question is, I know that it says its fine to sea salt water rinse as much as you want but how long exactly does it take for the swelling to receed around the piercing? The care kit I was given only told me how long til healing time (1-2 months) but not swelling time. I have been constantly gargling and rinsing with salt water (keep a water bottle with me at all times) and I do morning and night regimen of alcohol-free Biotene mouthwash and anti-microbial soap. What though does it mean when a hard ball seems to have formed around where the ring is? is that just scar tissue forming? Also, want to prove everyone wrong in that I can take care of it well with no infections, are there any suggestions? and what exactly is a labret?? I keep reading about it ^_^; Thanks!

Swelling usually lasts 2-3 days after getting the piercing, but can last 7-10 days. Everybody will have swelling and usually depends on the person on how long it will last.

A hard ball is usually scar tissue forming around the piercing. If that ever occurs you can put some vitamin-e on the back of it and it should clear up (I have gotten it on my snakebites). Don’t ever use hydrogen peroxide, alcohol swabs, or alcohol-based cleansers on the piercing, as they are very harsh and destroy the cells that form scar tissue. Make sure you have lavender oil, it promotes healing and lubricates the piercing reducing tenderness. If you keep it clean even after completely healed you shouldn't get an infection.

A labret is a type of piercing but also the name for the type of stud that you can use in your piercing.

lol that thing your suppose to get around the ring is just crust, is normal...and a labret is the piercing is whatyou have that's the name for it not a lip piercing. Your doing fine, your taking care of your lip piercing and the swelling should go down in 1-2 weeks, bu everyone is diffrent. For me it took about 4 or 5 days. And no you won't get an infections, is very hard for the lip to get infected. Chew ice or suck on it so the swelling goes down faster...Good luck!! and don't try taking it out now, is too soon.

Okay, i've never gotten my lip pierced and i'm not an expert on piercings either.
so, i think your best bet would be to ask the person who pierced your lip. i've heard that normally the piercer will tell you all these after-care tips, and whatnot.

while most piercing have a little risk of infection, i think you're taking pretty good care of it so far. i'm assuming yours will be fine.

also, a labret is a piercing under the lower lip. to see pictures, just search labret on google images.

each person`s body reacts differently to a piercing...i was lucky, i didn`t have swelling or anything & i didn`t use salt water or mouthwash or anything (please don`t follow my example, tho...do all the after-care!!!)...i think you`ll be fine, u just have to give it time to heal...
