The Korean War began on June 25, 1950.

North Korea struck across the 38th parallel behind a thunderous artillery barrage and 135,000 troops. The Northern government claimed that South Korean troops under the "bandit traitor" Syngman Rhee had crossed the 38th parallel, and thus the South had started the war. So basically to stop the spread of communism. (Containment) Also because of the Domino Theory.

The benefits of the Korean War were materials for the war made a player for Japan's war again.

The Korean War technically has not yet ended and there has been no treaty.. An official cease-fire began on July 27, 1953.

In July of 1953, a peace armistice was signed but an official peace treaty has never been signed. In 1991, the countries met and signed a "non-aggresion" treaty. 23 countries were involved with the fight because it was a United Nations manuever.

The outcome of the war was Limited War- met goal, South Korea is free, Police action, and is known as "Die for a Tie" or the forgotten War.

Hope this helps.

War began in 1950 and ended in 1953.
The war started when the UN reacted to North Korea invading South Korea and sent in a force to stop the invasion. This was considered a "police action" and not an open declaration of war. The war ended when Joseph Stalin died and the peace initiatives could progress without his interference. The War technically never ended, the two Koreas are only under a cease fire really. Primarily the aggreements made were the location of the border and the De-Militarized Zone on either side of it. This DMZ is intended to be free from any military presence on both sides so that neither can move troops close to the border for a surprise invasion.
