well people are, for the most part, selfish by nature. so sex is pleasure. religion on the other hand, is structure. now in today's society we are all about self indulgence so of cores we pick sex.

Religion used to be sex. Now sex is Religion.
(Assuming professorial stance):
In ancient times (about 20 years ago) people got pleasure out of denying that sex exists. This was post the truly prehistoric time when people believed that only sex exists. As at Woodstock.
Thus, Religion was sex, since people derived pleasure from denying its existence.
Now, Sex is religion, as evidenced by the following:
* It's mostly obligatory. Try refusing her when she's in the mood.
* It's usually the women who dictate where you should go and what you should do
* There are periods of fasting and abstinence that are inviolate
* It overturns the religious doctrine that eating is bad
Thus, Ladies and Gentlemen, the conclusion is that, whether Sex is religion or Religion is sex, it's the man that gets a self-tapping screw up the wazoo.

With religion, humankind would have died out a couple of millenia ago, since sex was frowned on. Either that or the world would have been overrun by Roman Catholics who use the rhythm method for birth control.
Heck, churches take and don't give anything in return while telling you that pleasure is bad bad bad while the evangelists run around with all kinds of women and milk people on pensions out of their pension checks.
Do you know how much sex contributes to the economy? Only about 90% of the economy is driven by it. How can you sell hundreds of products without a sexy woman (okay, they are starting to use more sexy men too) standing by it, using it, or just smiling? How many motels would there be without sex? How many men would take out women for dinner if there was no hope for sex after? Bye-bye restaurants. How many men would buy gifts like flowers, negligees, and perfume for women if there were no sex?
How would journalism survive without sex scandals? Bye bye journalism.
How many movies would be made if no sex or suggestive language were allowed in them? No teenager would be caught dead going to a movie without sex or violence. Bye bye movie industry.
How many doctors would be in practice without sexual diseases to treat. Not very many. Don't you know that diseases are the result of sin aka sex? Yup, if you listen to the evangelists, you KNOW it. Bye bye medicine, hospitlas and nurses.
