If you're in the UK, it's probably the: Tegenaria duellica - This is one of about a dozen species generally known as house spiders. The males are often seen scuttling across a room or falling into bath tubs as they move around in search of a female.
Interesting fact: House spiders can survive for several months without food or water! HELP!

Know this one.

The genus Tegenaria has several famous members, including the notorious hobo spider (Tegenaria agrestis), the domestic house spider (Tegenaria domestica) and the giant house spider (Tegenaria duellica).

The Giant House spider is known to kill its smaller cousin the Hobo because the two compete for resources.

The Hobo Spider is possibly the most venomous of the genus Tegenaria, though this has not yet been scientifically proven.

Tegeneria duellica when found in the bath usually in september october are males coming inside to find females.

You could be referring to any house spider. House spiders are thirsty creatures living in a very water-poor environment, and any that venture near a sink or tub with drops of water in it will try to reach the water, often by climbing down a wall. Once in the slick-sided porcelain basin, they are unable to climb back out unless a helpful human 'lends them a hand'.

But back to the question, again, you could be referring to any type of house spider. What does it look like? Size? Colour? Number of eyes? Does it hold its legs together or apart? In what area of what country do you live? That sort of thing. You may as well be asking, 'Hey, what are those fish often found in rivers? You know the ones.'

They are house spiders, even if you catch it and throw it out it will be back the next day. They are harmless and do good by killing other pests. I have one and when it comes out it follows the same path every time. I love it.

In Australia they are huntsman spiders. They make house spiders look tiny by comparison. They will bite you if you mess with them, most spiders will, but they won't kill you - unless they scare you to death. You can see some of them here: (Caution! arachnophobes should not click this link)
