Many find a lot of inspiring metaphors for life from sports. But when Barry Bonds reaches the top of the most sacred record will children start looking at him as an inspiration to cheat? The best did WHATEVER it took to get to the top. (no matter what the consequences) He supposedly started taking steroids because of jealousy that he had for Mcguire, and Sosa.

There are going to be good role models and bad ones in any occupation. The idea is for kids to know the difference. You can tell them that Pete Rose was a great hitter, but he broke the rules about betting on baseball games and has suffered a harsh punishment for it. You can tell them that Barry Bonds is one of the greatest baseball players of all time, but because he may have cheated (steroids, etc.) he'll never receive the recognition he deserves for all of his accomplishments. Plenty of people didn't take illegal short cuts and reached the top. There are always going to be cheaters, but doing it the right way always is better.

Watching sports for hours in front of the TV is the WORST thing a parent can do with a child. What a waste of time. WATCHING OTHER PEOPLE LEAD THEIR LIVES???

Take your child to the park, camping, swimming... go to the library and get books to share together. Read the Harry Potter series with them... Start mountain biking.

Please don't teach your child to worship these losers that take steroids and get into fights on the ice...

Like everything in life its up to parents to teach their children right and wrong. The problem with this day and age is parents aren’t paying enough attention to their children leaving them to admire (shall we say) the wrong people in sports.

Depends on how their parents raise them. If their parents push them to do their best well, then maybe they will use steroids.
